A Message from Mr. Hedger, Superintendent of Schools

Mr. Hedger

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The first full month of the school year has come and gone. September provided us with a plethora of excitement. Homecoming week alone was full of great opportunities for our students, staff, and families. Whether it was the school spirit days, Homecoming pep rally, Color Run, victory Friday, or the Hall of Fame Celebration, there were ample opportunities to show your LoMa Pride.

Also, we did some school work too! The elementary students have been busy establishing routine and learning through a variety of activities. This past week I was able to see so many students engaging with their peers in valuable learning opportunities. Secondary students have also continued the hard work of consistently engaging in high-quality learning that often leads to hours of work outside the classroom. The routine of school can be very good, especially when it challenges students to grow.

We continue to implement best practices as presented through Capturing Kids’ Hearts. You may hear your students talking about the concept of a social contract, which is a mutually agreed upon set of expectations for each classroom. Please speak with your students about how they are enjoying the intentional work our teachers and staff are putting into developing relationships with students. Ths initiative continues to provide the platform for a positive learning environment for all students and staff.

I would like to thank the Booster Club for their generous support of so many opportunities for our students. This past year the Booster Club donated uniforms and equipment for athletes in several sports. They also donated the new sound system at the football field. Additionally, they donated the new black fence at the athletic complex. Each of these improvements are made possible by the generous donations of so many of you. The most recent Booster Club Jersey Auction saw dozens of our local businesses and community members collectively donate over $30,000. We are blessed to have such a generous community of supporters. THANK YOU!!!

Additionally there have been many other groups who are working to support our students and teachers. The TSO has given numerous hours of service and money to support teachers in their endeavors. Members of the Logan-Magnolia Alumni Association were essential in helping ensure success for our inaugural Hall of Fame Celebration. Also, the PMA continues to generously contribute to our fine arts programs with equipment and time. I encourage you to join one or more of these volunteer organizations and help grow our community.

Parent- Teacher Conferences are set to take place on October 28th and 29th from 3:00 to 7:00. PLEASE make sure you set aside time to meet with your students’ teachers. This is an opportunity to build a strong relationship that will help ensure your student has a positive learning experience. Our teachers are very much looking forward to the opportunity to partner with you.

In conjunction with Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will be hosting Community Engagement Meetings to share the work of the district. October 28th and 29th at 6:00 we will have meetings to share our Vision and Mission statements along with our District goals. We will also discuss the results of the Climate and Culture Survey that was administered at the beginning of the school year. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to learn more about our ongoing construction projects and to meet the Logan-Magnolia Administrative Team.

The dome project is making a lot of progress. Here is an update:

● The dome is scheduled to be inflated this week!!!
● Construction on the commons area that connects the current school to the dome has begun.
● We are also moving forward with plans for adding four elementary classrooms. Bids are due later this month with final decisions made shortly thereafter.

Thank you to the community for your generous support of these projects! We are excited about the improvements and know that without your generosity this project would not be possible.

There are a few important dates to keep in mind for the upcoming school year. The majority of these dates can be found on the school website. However, here are a few of the highlight dates for the next couple of months. We look forward to seeing you at some or all of the school events.

● October 9 - School Board Meeting
● October 28/29 - Parent-Teacher Conferences (3:00-7:00)
● November 1 - No School
● November 13 - School Board Meeting
● November 27 - 29 - No School: Thanksgiving Break

Last month I was able to share with you the new vision and mission statements that have been adopted by the district. They are listed below for your reference.

● Vision: To be the premier school in the region, by providing an environment in which students and staff become the best version of themselves.
● Mission: Inspire student growth through high-quality academics and activities.

However, the ongoing work on implementing the vision and mission statements is enhanced through the creation of district and building level goals. This month the school board will adopt goals for the district and the administrative team is busy creating building level goals that align with the district’s vision and mission.

Again, I encourage you to come learn more about the work the district is doing at our Community Engagement Meetings. The first meetings are on October 28th and 29th at 6:00. We will discuss our goals, but also share information from the Climate and Culture survey that was administered at the beginning of the school year. Your voice matters! Come learn more about the changes we are making and the goals we are pursuing.

Inspire Together!
